Lane Lines & Signal Heads
Pavement Markings & Traffic Signal Rules
Yellow Separates Opposing Traffic; White Separates Same Direction
- Broken Yellow Line: You may pass on the left only when the oncoming lane is clear and safe.
- Double Solid Yellow Lines: Passing is strictly prohibited in either direction (you may only cross to turn left into/out of a private driveway).
- Shared Center Left-Turn Lane: Marked by solid outer yellow lines and dashed inner yellow lines. Used ONLY for turning left (never for passing or driving more than 200–300 feet).
Flashing Yellow Arrow vs. Solid Red & Green Arrows
- Flashing Yellow Arrow: Turning in the direction of the arrow is permitted AFTER yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
- Solid Green Arrow: Protected turn. Oncoming traffic has a red light, though you must still yield to pedestrians in the intersection.
- Flashing Red Light: Treat identically to a STOP sign. Come to a complete stop, yield right-of-way, and proceed when safe.
